Dorothea Elias Simkwayi is a dedicated and versatile health professional with a focus on pediatric cardiac care, advocacy, and innovation. As a pharmacy graduate from the Muhimbili College of Health and Allied Sciences, she has developed heart medications specifically for children, enhancing their treatment options. Her volunteer work at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) underscores her commitment to improving the lives of young patients with heart conditions. Dorothea also plays a significant role in the Watoto Afrika Initiative (WAI) as a content creator, where she focuses on mental health advocacy, working to alleviate the challenges faced by children affected by trauma, abuse, and violence.
Beyond her clinical and advocacy roles, Dorothea is an innovator, author, and public speaker. She leads initiatives to help students discover and use their talents for positive societal impact, collaborating with organizations such as the Tanzania Pharmaceutical Students Association (TAPSA), Sisi Tanzania Organization, Liberty Sparks, and the Great Hope Foundation (GHF). Additionally, she founded the ‘Afya Fans Organization(AFO) in Tanzania, which promotes health and moral values within the community.
Dorothea maintains a balance between her hospital responsibilities during the week and her other professional activities on weekends. Despite undergoing surgeries for Hiatus Hernia GERD, she remains grateful for her recovery and continues her work with passion and dedication.
